So it looks like Kidjo was delayed on his way to take out Portis, which is why Sophia and Selphi got there first (see Hikari). And since Marielle and Kidjo have met in person, this explains why she was able to recognize him in the original story.

Kidjo (the man with beady eyes) appears to be Marielle’s employer. And we know who he works for (hint: Cardinal Milikin). So if we didn’t already know, Milikin’s knocking off the other Cardinal’s and assuming power for himself.
This is all old info, if you’ve been following since the beginning. However, some new things may come to light in the following pages….
…plus, we’re learning new things about the Tojin people. So bonus.
