@$$hole!: Cooking Lessons 3
Vegetables are healthy (and delicious, if fresh and prepared correctly), but how healthy are they exactly? Do they cure ailments? Do they provide one with super-human abilities? These kinds of questions were running around in my head when I was trying to come up with something silly for Trevor to promise in cooking his veggies.
I remember my parents telling me when I was younger about the importance of eating my veggies. And I wasn’t a very picky eater, but I certainly had my preferences. So to get me to try new things my folks would sometimes tell me things like, “If you want to be big and strong them you need to eat this.”
Basically, I’m taking that concept and running off a cliff with it. Which leads us to….
Ridiculous premise #1: Vegetables can cure STDs.
I was trying to come up with something so off the wall as to be laughable (it is a comedy comic, after all), and this seemed fitting and appropriate. I mean, STDs are a legitimate fear for any sexually active individual looking for love in all the wrong places. Heck, even in the right places, sometimes. But to have a cure-all out if you eat your veggies, well…if that were true, I’d turn Vegan tomorrow!
But the truth of it is that a balanced diet (and exercise) are what is actually healthy. Recess and play time in the workplace are replaced with “lunch breaks” (if you’re lucky) and “meetings.” Not a lot of exercise when you’re going to the coffee machine for a refill, but damn does it feel good to stretch those legs sometimes.
So the takeaway is this: eat healthy and exercise. Otherwise you’re going to get STDs.
This weekend I’ll be a guest of honor at Anime-Zing! in Davenport, IA. I’ll be in attendance with fellow comic creator Russell Lissau (The Batman Strikes, Shrek), and every show we do together we have some kind of silly and ridiculous story to tell after.
It’s my first trip to Iowa, and I’m really looking forward to the show. I have a number of panels throughout the weekend:
*Breaking Into Comics (with Russell Lissau): 7pm Friday
*@$$hole / An Evening with Trevor Mueller: 10pm Friday
*Making Webcomics: 5:30pm Saturday
*Reading With Pictures: 7pm Saturday
Be sure to stop by and say hi, attend some panels, and let’s have a fun weekend. Hope to see you there!
